The 2007 SUMMER STAPH INSTITUTE The SSI is in its second year with a 10 week program under the direction of Dr. Steven Seifried (Cell and Molecular Biology), Dr. Matthew Bankowski (DLS) and Dr. Alan Tice (Infectious Disease specialist). The 3 primary areas of investigation include: - Seawater sampling and analysis of microbes therein development and application of methods to detect S.aureus in seawater and sand.
- Further genotypic and phenotypic characterization of the SAM culture collection; 1000 S.aureus clinical, carriage, and environmental isolates analyzed for antimicrobial resistance, clonetypes, virulence factor genes and their regulation.
- Additonal studies of topical antibacterial resistance.
